• How did it feel to have more or less money than other people in the class?
How did it feel to see what you could and could not afford at the Global Mall?
I got $2,500 (the largest amount of money you can get in this activity) I felt kind of superior because only three out of seventeen people got $2,500. And I felt really lucky that could afford healthy food and water, go to college, and medical care.
• How many of you could not afford education? What would your lives be like if you could not go to school?
I think fourteen out of seventeen (which is 82%) people could not afford education. I would not have a good future if I could not go to school. Which means I could not take care of my family (my mom and my dad) because if I'm not educated then I don't think any large company will use me.
• How would it feel to have to choose between food and health care?
I felt really weird. Because if you buy good and healthy foods you won't get sick that often. Which means that you don't need a super good health care. And if you buy foods that are not that healthy then you'll need a better health care.
• How many of you have ever been very sick or gone to a hospital or had friends and family who have? What would your life be like now if you had been unable to get medical care?
I went to hospital when I was in Pre-K and second grade. First time is because my stomach hurt. And another time is when I was in a care accident. If I had been unable to get medical care my right leg would be maimed. So I would not be able to walk like normal people now.
• What were the impacts caused by people with fewer Global Mall Dollars, and what were the impacts caused by people with more Global Mall Dollars?
The impacts caused by people with fewer Global Mall Dollars were that the people with fewer dollars would die easily. Because they couldn't afford healthy food, water, and medical care. Also because that they couldn't afford healthy food, water, and medical care, they didn't polluted the Earth that much.
And the impacts caused by people with more Global Mall Dollars were that they could have a better future and they could do a big business. And they could be very healthy because they could afford the healthy food, water and good medical care. But they also polluted the Earth at the same time. Because some of the healthy food might not grow in their countries, so they will buy the imported food from other countries.

less than $1 (U.S.) a day – how does this limit their choices, and what are the environmental, social, and global security implications of this?
If you only had 1 U.S. dollar a day, you will not have that much choices when you are in a supermarket. Because you can't only buy cheap stuff. Now the cheap foods you can get are mostly fats and vegetables with pesticide. And of course pesticide will hurt your body, and you might even die if you didn't wash the vegetables. And the water you used to wash the will be polluted too. If all the water in the world are polluted than humans can't live anymore.
• When you were choosing what to buy, did you think about the environmental impact? For those of you in the lowest income range, did you have a choice about the environmental impact you produced? If not, how did it feel to not have a choice?
No, I didn't really think about the environmental impact when I were choosing what to buy. Because not all the food and water are imported from other countries.

This interview is about the "I Am an Emotional Creature: The Secret Life of Girls Around the World " - book that was written by Eve Ensler. And the book is basically about how females are treated in this world. In the interview she talked about her journey around the world, and she is fighting for females' rights.
She is being a global citizen by discovering the truth of how women are treated in the world and she is trying to help them. She talked to the women and listened to their problems.
Many women and girls in the world are dieting and trying to be skinny because they want to look good. They want to look good and pretty so that men will like them. Women will try all different ways to become skinny, some of the ways might hurt their health. Why did they do this kind of thing? Why?! They want men to say they are pretty, they sacrifice their health for men.
I think the connection between "The Story of Stuff" and Ensler's story about the girl in the factory making Barbie doll heads is that they are both about producing products. And the girls and people in the factories were payed very low. And both of them payed their entire (maybe, because if they work in the factories since they were a kid they are not educated) life there making Barbie dolls' head and take in toxins.

This movie is a little bit like when the Spanish people (Columbus) got to the "NEW WORLD (North America)". In Brazil, South America there are some native people that live in the Amazon Rainforest and we are cutting the trees down to make papers, etc. They think that the nature is their mother and their best friend. Today we don't treat nature like our friend or family anymore, we treat them like our enemy, we kill them.

1. Find Plastic Clay
People dig their own clay from the ground and they felt the valuable connection between Earth and then-self in the past. Today people buy clay ceramics from bookstore, etc.

2. Wedging
The process of mixing the clay by rotating and pressing it on the table is called wedging. This process is very important because it presses out the air bubbles in the clay. If there are air bubbles in the clay and you fire it, the clay will explore. Which means your cup, plates, bowl, etc. will explore.

3. Forming
There are many different ways of forming a clay. You can use slab, wheel, coil, pinch, and mold. You can also combine different ways together.

4. Drying
The pieces you created must be wrapped with soft sheet of plastic and been putted on the shelves in the damp room.The plastic will slow down the drying process.

5. Leatherhard
Few days later, your pieces should be dried. During the stage of leatherhard, your pieces' clay will lose some water and will lose some flexibility too, it is a good time to carve it or add some other decorative elements.

6. Greenware
When the piece of pottery has dried completely, it is at the stage of greenware. At this time you cannot add any decorative elements anymore. Only thing you can do during this time is to place the piece in the kiln and be ready to be fire.

7. Bisque Firing
During this firing, the temperature is 1800 degrees F (approximately). This process will harden the piece. So that it will not break as easily as before. It takes three days from start to finish. First day, if you firing too fast the work can easily to explore. Second day, after the temperature has got to 1800 degrees F. The kiln will be turned off so that the piece could slowly cool down. Third day, the kiln will be open and the basque will be moved and piece will be return to lab.

8. Glazing
Glazing is the mixture of ground glass, clay, coloring materials and water. You can dip your piece in glazing, pour, spray, brushing, or sponging glazing on you piece.

9. Glazing Firing
The temperature of glazing firing is about 2350 degrees F. Once the ware is out of the kiln, then you can take it home.

10. Overglaze Firing
Sometimes potter choose to do an addition firing to achiever the colors and surface effects not possible in the glaze firing. Some techniques like China painting involve multiple glazing firings very often.

First, there are different kinds of citizens. A person can be a citizen of one's nation, one's state, the entire world, etc. A citizen of a nation also holds the power of charging government. The rights of citizens also comes with duties. And to be a good citizen is not hard. You need to do the duties and be responsible. There is a question Professor Mike Hartoonion of the University of Michigan says, one should ask oneself to know what can one improve or what else can one do, and the question is "What can I do for my community to create more wealth, knowledge and justice?" This question can help one become a better citizen.

As previously stated in the first paragraph, there are many different kinds of citizens. Now I am going to talk about citizen of one's school. To be a citizen of school, one needs to participate in school or education. For example, I am a citizen of Hsinchu International School. To be a "good" citizen of school or any communities, there are duties and responsibilities to do.
Some duties and responsibilities in my - HIS are, be respectful to everyone, cooperate with others, be friendly to everyone, help the people who need helps, obey the rules of HIS, no hidden bias (very important), etc. What does it mean to have hidden bias? Well, to have hidden bias means to have an unconsious bias in your mind, but you don't really know it. To not have hidden bias you have to understand yourself first and then find out the problems.
There are still a lot of things that I need to improve. I think I need to speak more English, because others from other nations or countries that don't speak Chinese won't be able to understand. I also need to concentrate more n class and try not to say bad things behind others back. And try not to have prejudice (opinion, prejudgment, or attitude about a group), stereotypes (exaggerated belief, image, or distorted truth about a person or group). We learn prejudice from our family, school, peers, friends or media.

After talking about citizen of school, let's extend to a bigger community. There are two ways to become citizens of a nation or country. A naturalized citizen means a person that work or stay in a nation (a nation that you are not a citizen of) for certain time and filled out some forms and paper then it's (nation's) government will give you the passport of that nation, then you're the citizen of that nation. A native citizen means a person is born to be the citizen of the nation.
I am a citizen of Taiwan. Citizens have rights, but duties come with rights. Duties of citizen of Taiwan; pay taxes, obey the laws, involved in the precess of deciding who will run the government, serve in juries, serve in the military (if required), etc.
I don't really know if I'm a good citizen of Taiwan or not, but I think I am. Because I am not eighteen years old yet, so I don't know. But I will try my best to be a good citizen! There is one important thing that one must do to be a good citizen, that is try to help one's nation and make it better.

What does a citizen of one's world mean? It means that you are a part of the world or you are a member of the world. How to become a citizen of one's world? Usually if one live in that world, the one are a citizen of that world. No paperwork is required. What are some duties and responsibilities of being a citizen of one's world? To me, there are two major duties. First, try to slow down the Global Warming. Global Warming is the long-term average climate (tempterature, precipitation, winds, etc.)of the Global is changing. There are several ways to stop or slow it, to do recycle, reuse, and reduce things, turn off lights, unplug the plug when you don't need it, etc. Global Warming requires Global Citizenship because it is done by the whole world, and it will affect whole world. Second, to participate in some global activities, like candlelights.
Am I a good citizen? Why or why not? How can I do better? I think I am a good citizen of my world. Because I wrote two essays, five posters, and one presentation on Global Warming. And I've been in a discussion about the problem of Global Warming before. What I can do to improve is do more recycle, reuse, and reduce. There was a meeting in Netherlands, about how to stop Global Warming. Also I can be a social boundary crosser, because I think there are only little connection between the cliques of black people and Asian people. Example of social boundaries crosser is Rosa Parks. She crossed the boundaries line of black and white people in the U.S. And there was discrimination in my family, my mom thinks that all black people are stupid and dirty. But after this class I told my mom about the things I learned in this class, and she started to change her belief.

In conclusion, the most important things is discrimination, stereotypes, and prejudice. The effects of stereotypes and prejudice can be small or big. It can be a group that one don't like and one said bad thins about them and then having a fight with people getting feelings hurt. Or and misunderstandings between nations that can lead to war with thousands of people being killed (example, War World II).

The story I picked is called "Life". The story is about a expectant woman that she was about to give birth to her baby. But she and her husband has no car or other transportation. So her husband had carried her from her house to a road. Then a car passed by, the woman and her husband had blocked the road. The woman' husband asked the driver to drive them to the hospital. And the driver did.
It is important to me because I can learn from this story and see what can my country improve and how can I help Haiti.
The story is talking about the technology there is not very well develop and not as good as Taiwan. So the author is saying that if the don't start to change the country this kind of things will happen again and again. Because they didn't have the technology to help the people.
We should care about what's happening in Haiti because if next time we need help from other countries, they will help and care about us too.
To help and care about other countries when they need it is one of the rules to be a good citizen of the world.

Romanticism is a complex artistic, literary, intellectual, movement in the late 18th century in the Western Europe. The Romantic period started from 1820 ~ 1918 and it is preceded by the Classical period and followed by the Modernist period. The musics during this time are very emotional and creative, and almost every composer has their own style of music.

Symphonie Fantastique of Berlioz is very emotional and creative.

No. I don't think so.

Who is your subject. When and where did they live.
Hector Louis Berlioz was born in France and somewhere near Lyon and died in Paris (December 11th, 1803~March 8th, 1869). He was a Romantic composer, the well known musics that he composed are Symphonie Fantastique and Grande Messe des morts.

Barbershop quartets was evolved from hymns, psalms, and folk songs that immigrants to the U.S., and the traditional close-harmony quartets at the mid-1800s.

The musical texture of Barbershop Quartets is homophonic.

There are four voice parts - tenor, lead, baritone, and bass. The melody is set in the second-lowest voice.

Art Field Trip Reflection

November 10th, we went to a glass factory in Hsinchu for our Art trip. We walked under sun for 10~15 min to get there. It's already very hot outside, but in the factory it's hotter.
The workers were working very hard. Non of them were chatting or spacing out. The boss said that they work 24 hours almost no resting.
The first melting process of recycle glasses it's 1500 degrees C. And second time it's about 1100 degrees C. Hsinchu is so famous for glasses making because there are many silicons and natural gasses, which is materials for making glasses. But the last 10 years, many of the glass factory move to China, and so now there are only few large factory in Hsinchu.
We saw them making glass bottles. Then they show us how to little animals like snail, penguin and sea lion. Ms. Sheilah and Mr. Marchione tried to blow the glass, but both of them fail.
Making glasses might seem easy but it is actually very hard.
I learned more knowledge about glass, I also learned more about Hsinchu's culture and history.

Kinds of citizen:
Naturalized - move there, fill out paper work, change citizenship to a citizen of another country
Native - person who was born in a nation, will legally become citizen of that nation

I am citizen of family, school, Hsinchu, Taiwan, community, and the world.
Responsibilities for family: clean house, sleep early, etc.
Responsibilities for school: respect each other, cooperate, help each other when they need, listen to the person that is talking, etc.

I learned about their religion. They believe that humans can talk to animals and animals can talk humans.

I learned that Africans love to tell stories because they don't have enough money to buy books, and even that they can buy books they can't really read. Another thing that I learned is that their toy was sheep, they make signs on their sheep. And most of them love in country side (rural). And they sell grass to earn money. They live in the house that its roof was made of grasses, because grasses are cheaper. I also learned that only few people has cars, most them walk

Hi! I'm a student from HIS. Now come with me and I'll introduce our city to you.

My Bedroom.
I live with my And this is also where I do my homework. There's a bed, desk, wardrobe... I wake up at 7:15.

Some of they (African Student) has rent a room near the school and lived by them self.

School Sign.
Our school (Hsinchu International School) sign is bamboo. Because

Eat Breakfast.
After I brush my teeth, comb my hair, and change my clothes. I go to dinning room and eat breakfast that my mom had prepared. Most of the time breakfast are breads, porridge, cereal...

The students that lived by them self cook the meal by them self.

Go to school.
I go to school about 7:50~8:00. My mom drive my sister and I to school. From my house to school is about 10~15min.

Most of them walk to school. Because car is too expensive to them, only a few of them.

At day A, I study Science, Wellness, Independent Learning, and Language Arts. And B day I study Humanities, Math, Creative Writing, and ESL. And we use computer to study.

They only study Language, Science, and Math. They use books for study.

Lunch.
The school will prepare lunch for students, some of us eat the lunch that our parents made.

They need to cook their lunch at school.

Back To Home.
I came back from school. I will pet my pet first then do my homework. And after I done my homework I will practice my violin and piano.

The first thing when they came back from school is to water their garden after school every day. And they need to help their family to wash clothes, hang out to dry, ironing, grinding spices, making kenkey, cook, etc.

Sports.
We play soccer at the soccer field and basketball at basketball field.

They play soccer at the open area. Because they don't have many money to build a soccer field.

Danny Jordaan (The organizer of 2010 World Cup in South Africa) promised that the problems of stampedes in the stadium won't be a issue during the game. The stampede in World Cup match in Ivory Coast caused 19 people died.
Jordaan said that some African fans buy their tickets when they reach the stadium and arrive late, so that makes the outside of the stadium impatient crowded and causes disorder.
The tickets of 2010 World Cup in South Africa will have to purchase in advance. He also said that the fans without tickets will not be able to some near the stadium.

Last Saturday (Saturday, 28 March 2009) South Africa win (Soccer) Norway, and it was the first win in this 7 years over European Opposition.
Siphiwe Tshabalala (Substitute) scored in two minutes. It was a long-range shot, this shot brought morale-boosting win to their team.
South Africa want to get the 2010 world cup of soccer.

"I'm very, very satisfied - apart from winning, the team played really well against a strong team." the coach of South Africa team said.

The also told the reporters that "It's a game that has given our team a little bit more experience at a high international level."

The First Lady of United States of America helped students in school. And Obama his wife Michelle had built a kitchen garden in White House to feed their family and the official visitors.
The shape of the kitchen garden is a L-shaped. It grows spinach, carrots, lettuce, and blackberries. Mrs. Obama said that there will be a beehive in future. So that will provide honey for their family, staff and official visitors.

In South Pacific near Tonga. A underwater volcano shot out steam and ash into the sky. The eruption was cause by a huge earthquake in the deep ocean bed. Scientists went to the ocean and checked out where did the eruption began. And the eruption won't damage any buildings or hurt people that live near there. * If you lived in part of Kenbrena where you did not have energy resources, what could you do to survive?

If I live in part of Kenbrena where I didnt have any energy resources, I could cut the woods down and carve it into something I need. And gather some foods and clothes. I would go look around if there's any people, go to another places try very hard to suit in the environment.

* "To have a strong country, it is best to have only rich people with financial control." Support or refute that statement.

I refute that statement. Because sometimes rich people don't know how to control theirself of using the money, so they might spend all their money on their craving. And also that sometimes rich people's ambition will just make things worse.

* "People of different levels of wealth may not love one another, but they might need each other." Support or refute that statement.

I support this statement. Rich people might think that poor people are dirty, stupid... and poor poeple might think that the rich people are conceited and they might be jealous about them... But they all need each other. Because if there's no poor people in this society all the products and things will be much more expansive. Becuase it would be cheapper to hire the poor people when they are making the product. So the products will be cheapper.

(It's just my opinion...)

I think it's because of the classes. The lower class are jealous about the higher class. Then they started to say something bad about each other. Or maybe it's because of they don't like each other's living style, culture....

Mission- Find "New Earth"

A new telescope named Kepler telescope was blasted into the space. And it's mission is to spend three and a half years to find a planet that has similar characteristic like Earth's or a Earth-like planet. Scientists don't look forward to find any animals and humans on the Earth-like planet, but they said that there might be some living things on it. Living things to live on other planet is called Goldilocks effect. It is called Goldilocks effect because the planets is like Goldilocks in the story it has to keep a distance between other planets so that the Earth-like planet won't be too hot or cold.

The manager of Kepler project said "Trying to detect Jupiter-size planets crossing in front of their stars is like trying to measure the effect of a mosquito flying by a car's headlight.

"Finding Earth-sized planets is like trying to detect a very tiny flea in that same headlight."

The world economy is going down and degenerating. And the stock market of United States of America fall to the lowest point in this twelve years today. Dow Jones industry went down 1.21% today.
And Japan stock market also got to the lowest point in this twenty-six years. The stock market in Taiwan didn't go down today. It went up today, and this shows that the stock market in Taiwan are growing.

What is geography?
Geography is the study of Earth's lands, features and trait, tenants, and phenomena.

Where are you right now?
The absolute location of where I am is 24°49'14.28"N 120°58'24.00"E. And my house is on 11F, No. 189, Nanya St., North District, Hsinchu City, Taiwan 300. Now I'm in my room. You walk 5 big steps from the door straight into my house. Then you turn right and walk about 10 steps you might hear my sister screaming or singing. And then you walk straight through the door of my room. And you'll see my room.

What do we mean by the terms “physical, human and cultural” when we describe a place?
When you describe a place with physical characteristics means to describe the place with its landforms, its features. To describe a place with human characteristics means to use the place's political, buildings, and man-made thing to describe it. Cultural characteristics is to describe the place with its the interactions of humans and geography.

How do humans adapt to and/or change the environment?
Humans adapt to by using the natural thing in their environment. And humans change environment by building thing like house, shop, roads, highways, bridges, towers.....

How do we depend upon the environment?
We depend on the nature sources like petroleum, coal..... And we make things from woods.

How does movement affect your daily life?
Movement really affect you in daily life because you move every single day. And it is impossible to not move. When you move from a place to another that's a movement too, and you might use some transportation such as bus, train, airplane, car, boat, high-speed-rail..... Not just living things can move. Last year I wen to Prague during spring break. I really like that place because it is VERY BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!! Prague is a formal region and functional region. Because it the capital city of Czech (you can see it on map) and it is also a suburb. Some famous building in Prague are the Prague Orloj and Prague Castle. And the economy of Prague it's really good, it is twice of the whole Czech. Prague is the 12th wealthiest area in the European Union.

Isolating the Variable

This Monday and today's science class we had SMASH Day. This time we were been attacked by Chine with chocolate. And we were trying to design a boat that can carry students and teachers in HIS with three papers, three straws, and one meter of tape. Serena, Cherine and I were in one group. And we folded the paper into two garbage bins. And we got many tapes on the bottom of the garbage bin. We putted our design in the pond and putted the stoppers on our design to test it.

Things that keep the same:
- Every groups got the same materials.
- We all putted our design in the same fish pond.
- And we use the same kind of stoppers on the top of our designs to test it.

The things that were different:
- Our designs and how we putted the stoppers.
- Different people to put the stoppers.
- Even that we putted our designs in the same pond, but we still can't put them on the exact place that other people putted their design.

We did a puzzle games in our science class. Serena, Jasmine W and I were in one group. First we putted the white paper puzzle together. During the time that we were trying to put the puzzle together, I communicated with my group mates and discussed about how to put them into one piece of white paper. The second puzzle was the news paper puzzle. It was easier to put it in together because there words and colors on the puzzles.

And now we are studying about continental drift. Continental drift is the movement of continents. Continents were like puzzles, there are some similar angles to put it together.

The police in Southeast of England found a rabbit in the middle of the busy road in Canterbury.
The officers tried to catch the rabbit and passers-by tried to catch the rabbit. It took ten people to catch this white rabbit. And they gave the rabbit a name called Tiny, but actually this rabbit was huge and enormous. The animal experts are to care for Tiny.

An special chemical was sprinkled into the cloud at China. And the chemical makes man-made rain and snow, the process is called cloud-seeding. It was the longest drought in 38 years in Beijing. It's not the first time that China had made "Man-made". This chemical was used in some North country. Some people think that if cloud-seeding was used in one place, the other places might not less rain fall. But the people in Beijing said the "Man-made" rain and snow can improve the quality of air.

From My House (Taipei) To My Grandma' House.....

From my house in Taipie to my grandma' house.
I walked down stairs to second floor I heard the birds singing and the car' engine, I smelled the orchids in the corner, and I saw gray stairs, wooden handrail, purple orchids, two windows, and birds standing on the wire pole. When I walked down to first floor I saw silver mailboxes, handbills, and the front door. I opened the door and I smelled the smell of the car and petrol, I heard the sound of the car' engine, I saw people walking, car drove by, building, and trees..... I walked 3 meters and watched if there's a car coming. Then I turned right (My right) and walked about 18 meters. I saw birds wastes on the ground, I saw many cars, bicycle and motorcycle. I heard people talking and the engine' sound. I walk about 20 meters I saw interior design company and people riding bicycle.
Then I walked about 60 meters I smell the smell of dog wastes. I heard dog bark. And I saw a passerby walking her dog, I also saw my grandma' friends.
Then I turn left, and walked about 5 meters and I walked into the elevator and go to 7 floor. After the elevator' door opened, I turned left and I opened the door. I got to my grandma' house.

Our homework is to watch the 2 short videos. The first video is about how geography affect the climate. I learned that geography is the story of Earth and it's inhabitants, the Earth that we live now, and the Earth that we will live in the feature. I also learned that 'Ge' means Earth and 'graphia' means description. I learned about the climate that Asia has. Because the land and water heat up unevenly. It sets up temperature difference, when temperature are different it sets up pressure difference. And that's how the flow of wind start.
The second video is about how geography affect people, places, clothes, buildings, foods, sport, culture....

The main rivers in France are Loire River, Rhone, Garonne, and Seine.
The North and Northwest of France have temperate climate, and Southeast has Mediterranean climate, West has predominantly oceanic and many rainfalls.
Paris is the capital and biggest city of France.

Milan is located at one of the most plentiful places in the world. It is also one of the fashion capitals.
On the West by is the Tyrrhenian Sea, East is Adriatic Sea, Alps in Northern boundary and Lake Garda. Po is the principal river of Italy, it flows from Alps on the Western border across the Padan plain to the Adriatic Sea. The climate that Italy has is Mediterranean climate.
You are going to visit Milan Cathedral (Domm di Milan). Milan Cathedral was built from 1386 to 1897. It is the third biggest church in the world. First it was built by duke Galeazzo Visconti Ⅲ. What is geography?

Geography has many meanings. Geography (From Greek "geografia") the study of Earth's lands, features and trait, tenants, and phenomena. The people that study geography is called geologists.
And there are two kind of geography. One is called physical geography and the other one is called cultural geography (It's also known as human geography). The people that study geography is called geologists or geographers. Physical geographers study the pattern and course connected to Earth, relationships between humans and environment. The cultural geographer study about religions, languages, cities, and why some groups practice their special ritual, speak different dialects, or organize their cities their way.

Today' morning gathering was talking about the mac problem. In the play Jacob lent his mac to Peter. Because Peter mac wasn't there yet but he need to finish the homework for Mr. Carpenter. Jacob said "You need to return the mac to me before 5' O clock and with no damages, if there's any damages your new mac will be mine (The old mac will be Jacob's too)." Even that Peter know there's the possibility to drop Jacob's mac. But he still agreed. Then Peter used Jacob mac to do his homework. After he finish his homework he accidentally dropped Jacob's mac and the files were gone. So Jacob said "Your new mac will be mine (And the one that Peter dropped will be his)." Peter said "No. I can fix it. And the new mac will still be mine." The question is "Should Peter give his new mac to Jacob? Why?"

I think Peter should give his new mac to Jacob. Because promise is a promise. Even that is was a verbal agreement. If Peter break the promise, no one else will lend him their computer or other thing.

SMASH Day Reflection!

Summaries:
We had a SMASH (Mrs. smith's awesome science hoopla) day. The mission was we were trying to build periscope. We have 10 paper, 2 scissors, 1 hardboard box, 1 meter of tape, and 4 mirrors to make an periscope. We were using the periscope to look in a box and listed out the items we saw in the box.

Reflections:
I think Cherine and I modified our design about 4~6 times. Because the angle to look in the mirrors was not very good. So we tried and tried until we got a perfect angle. We knew that we should modify our design because we can't really see the thing through the mirrors. We knew what to do when we modified our design because we changed a little thing every time, if was worse than we haven't do the little change. Then we we'll discard the change and try it another way. Cherine and I discussed how to do the design and then we share our ideas to modify our design.

Tips and Suggestions
- Don't do it too complicate.
- Always make a little change.

I learned many things from Peter's presentation. His presentation is talking about the three religions (Christianity, Judaism and Islam). In his research presentation the three religions are all monotheistic religion. He said that Christianity and Judaism were came from the same root. But the Jewish said that Jesus are not the son of the god. And they both said that if you're not Christian, you're going to hell. The Islam will pray to the North 5 times a day.

The weather in Australia have been soaring and causing chaos. The Australian Open tennis tournament was halted because the players couldn't cope with their competitor in the heat. And the tennis officials closed the retractable roof at the main stadium.

The heat also causes the fire in Australia. And there were two horse die in the heat, 140,000 home was left with no power. Thousands of firefighters were to await order in Victoria.

More than 100 people was killed in Kenya in Fubruary 01, 2009 because of a lorry that carried petrol exploded. The petrol tanker was near the town of Molo when it exploded, it killed at least 111 people and more than 111 people was hurt. The officials still don't know how the fire start, and they're worry that there might be more people been killed. Some people think that the lit cigarette started the blaze.

Life After People.........

We watched a movie called Life After People. And the movie is about if one day all the people on Earth were gone, and all the thing that we're doing was still there and working. And what will happen 1 week later, 1 month later, 1 year later, 10 year later, 100 year later.......
And now our teacher ask us to write a post that's about if all the people that are not in Taiwan were all gone, what will happen? How will we survive??

I think that the people in Taiwan will stay in Taiwan. They can't go to other countries because there are no people in other countries, which means that there are also no people in the airport, it will be very dangerous to fly out. May be after few days people in Taiwan will take boats to China, Japan, and find something to survive.

In science class, I did a children' book for the the final project. The book is about two body system, and how did they work together. And the body system I did are the respiratory system and circulatory system.

Did you realized that this winter was colder that other winter before, even that the country that was near the Equator like Thailand. Thailand was below 15 degrees Celsius. And American mid-west' temperature was 30 degrees Celsius below zero. It's just like the North Pale.

A little girl was swimming in the ocean and surfing off the island in Australia (Tasmania). Then a five meter-long shark bit her legs and dragged her into the water twice. Her cousin heard her screaming and went to save her. And another shark attacked was also happened in Australia (New South Wales seacoast). A thirty-year-old man was attacked by the shark, the man' father said that the shark bit in the aorta, but the man was luckily alive.

Modern Slavery....

I think is last last week, I saw a news TV about the selling the babies, it happened in Taichung. There's man that are selling his baby, and the baby was only about 3-day-old. And the people that walk through the street saw this man and called the police. The police asked the man how many babies did he sold, and the man said about 4 babies. The man still had 2 sons and 1 daughter and they sleep in the dog cages and only eat one meal per day. The police also asked many babies did the man have, surprisingly the man said he don't know!!!! Then his children were taken from them, because he and his wife don't have enough money to raise their children.

Another news that's about the modern slavery. In California there's a rich family, and they brought a 10-year-old girl from Egypt to be their slave. She need to do all the housework every day and she can only sleep in the garage with no light, no bed and no heater in the winter. When the neighbor saw this little girl, they quickly called the police.
The police find out that when the rich family was having a party, the Egyptian girl will need to prepare the food and also clean up every thing. And she work more than 20 hours per day, when she did something that makes the mistress unhappy, she don't have a chance to explain and the mistress will slap on her face.
Thanks to the neighbor that called the police. So the owners was judged to sentences 3 years' imprisonment.

The Ten Commandments.

We watched a movie called "The Ten Commandments" during the Humanities class. And it is a movie that's about the story of Moses and The Ancient Egypt.

I learned that the Pharaoh had all the power. And the royal family had the power too. I learned that the Jewish and Hebrews were the slaves. The Jewish or Hebrews were born to be the slaves, they don't have any other choice. The slaves don't have any break time and freedom.
I also learned that the technology in ancient Egypt was very advanced. They sewed the strings on the obelisk and then cut the strings on one side, then the obelisk will stand.

My Break:

One thing I did over break was I went to Korea with my family, and Korea was snowing at that time. And we went to an amusement park called Everland. We skated on ICE!!!!!!!!!! That was the first time I was skating on ICE. There a big Christmas tree in the middle of the skating rink and there are so many light ball twinkled on it. The feeling of skating was like you're flying , it wasn't very had to skate on ice but it was very hard to stop. So I fell down every time when I stopped. That was the funnest thing that I did during this Christmas break.
Other thing I did over break was I made a Kim-chi in Korea. It was very hard to make, because there's many steps (like about 20...) The Kim-chi was very very delicious (especially the one I made.... Ha ha).

My 2009 Goals:

One of the my goal for 2009 is I want to get a better grade on "Language Art", I will need to speak more in class and try to answer as much question as I can. I will do my homework on time and ask question if I don't know how to do.

For the past month we have been researching body systems on our own.
One good thing about doing it this way is we can really know what are we learning because we find the information to answer the question.
One thing I didn't like about doing in this way is that we will need to find more information and learn it from reading by our-self ,and for the ESL people it will be really hard to answer the question.

I think Mrs. Smith plan it this way because the people that don't like to listen in class will learn by their-self and follows the progress.
One suggestion for Mrs. Smith is to give us more web site to read and learn because some website wrote the different information. Another suggestion I have for Mrs. Smith is help us a little bit, so that we can quickly understand it.

The scientists found out that the dogs can feel jealous too. The test was in Austria with pairs if dogs and their owners. The dogs would have food to eat if the held out their paws and shake hand with their owners. But if one dog got a reward, and the other one didn't, the one that didn't got food would be unhappy.

Save the Black Rhino!!!!!!!
25 years ago black rhinos were cared by humans. But today rhinos are being let out to to live into the wildness. There used to be a lot of rhinos in the past but in the 1980s thousands were killed. Now a project that goes very well. And the planners are happy and release to let the black rhino out into the wildness.
Now the team are working on one of the countries where rhinos have struggled.
There were 20,000 black rhinos living in Kenya in the 1970s but now there's only about 500 black rhino left. And most of them were killed by poachers.

There is a new organization called UK Council for Child Internet Safety. Googel and Microsoft are also involved in it.

This is the first original, un-pondered drill that is known as perfect without any slight defect. The European jewelry company claim publicly that the originally drill was found in South Africa in these 2 days. Because it haven't been cut, so the price is still not decided.
The drill was 478 carat. It was almost as big as the head of George Washington on the 100 US bill.
And because it haven't been cut so the price is still not decided. Also it haven't had a name.
